“Pine Needles” in the Carmel Pine Cone read: Bouncing Big Sur Boy, Noel Douglas Walling, arrived at Community Hospital on Sunday, September 25, 1977 to the delight of his parents!

Scrapbook collage of treasured emotions—our boy at three weeks, six days old. Noel became the most beloved new person on Apple Pie Ridge Road and our main source of delight and entertainment.

Noel reads the January 1979 issue of The Big Sur Gazette. He took to photos and graphics at two months of age, and print soon after. The first newspaper caption he read was under a Bill Bates cartoon. It said: "Popovers!" (A Carmel joke set at Wishart's Bakery).
