Helen and Helmuth Deetjen began their life together in Carmel, California, where Deetjen built two homes in the early 1930s, one they shared on Carmel Point. Within a few years, their favorite campsite in Big Sur became their home—and by 1940, it was home to many. Deetjen’s Inn has given visitors an enduring sense of tranquility for decades.
