Principal, Jay MardenOur principal, Jay Marden, was a professional runner before beginning his career in education. At the end of his career, he retired one of the fastest Americans to ever run a 10K. He grew up in Fremont, California, but has lived in Carmel for four years with his wife and three sons. He taught elementary school in Fremont, Milpitas, and Carmel Unified School District for seven years. As a result of his lifelong dedication to running, he organized the Kids of Carmel Track and Field Meet, which just celebrated its fifth year. The event serves kindergarten through fifth grade students in Carmel area public and private schools. In addition to his principalship at Captain Cooper, he is Director of Special Projects for Carmel Unified School District. Since arriving at Cooper, he is especially proud of the beautification of the school grounds and the staff's efforts to provide an enriched and holistic education.
