Our
principal, Jay Marden, was a professional runner before beginning his career in
education. At the end of his career, he retired one of the fastest Americans to
ever run a 10K. He grew up in Fremont, California, but has lived in Carmel for
four years with his wife and three sons. He taught elementary school in Fremont,
Milpitas, and Carmel Unified School District for seven years. As a result of his
lifelong dedication to running, he organized the Kids of Carmel Track and Field
Meet, which just celebrated its fifth year. The event serves kindergarten through
fifth grade students in Carmel area public and private schools. In addition to
his principalship at Captain Cooper, he is Director of Special Projects for Carmel
Unified School District. Since arriving at Cooper, he is especially proud of the
beautification of the school grounds and the staff's efforts to provide an enriched
and holistic education. |

Donna also draws from a background of extensive training in ballet, jazz and modern dance to teach eight movement classes at River School. She co-chairs the Dance Division of the Visual and Performing Arts Committee. "When the offer was made to me to work at Captain Cooper this school year, I felt I was being given a gift. I am so happy to be here, and I even love the drive (except when stuck behind a tour bus over Hurricane Point)." |

Her favorite activity is spending time with her husband and her two children. Mrs. Truesdell says that her favorite thing about being in Big Sur is the beautiful environment and friendly people. What she likes best about Captain Cooper is "working with wonderful students and a terrific staff in such a gorgeous setting." |
