P.E. Programs
and Activities

Captain Cooper PEWhile continuing to improve our program we base the curriculum on the Physical Education Framework adopted by the California State Board of Education. This describes a sequential, developmental, age-appropriate physical education program designed to provide students with the knowledge and ability needed to maintain an active, healthy life-style. The framework calls for an effective program that balances and contributes to children's academic learning.

The first and perhaps most important aspect of physical education is the direct bearing it has on children's physical, mental, and social wellbeing. The child who is well educated physically is likely to become a healthy adult who is motivated to remain healthy.

Traditional programs favored those who are most talented and leaving the less able to view themselves as outsiders that will never make the grade. Our society can no longer afford that approach. A principal theme of the framework is that all children must be given the opportunities not only to succeed in physical education but to develop lifelong commitment to the pleasure and health benefits of physical activity. Throughout, physical education promotes the social skills and cooperation that is essential for success.
